Status: Complete
Picture

Summary

The small ground tracking station is an enclosure for the Eggfinder ground station often used for tracking high-power rockets. The Eggfinder is sold only as an exposed PCB, with no protection.

Construction

The small ground tracking station is a 3D printed shell that secures the Eggfinder ground station and a large battery pack. The shell is topped with a piece of 1/8" acrylic, which has bulkhead passthroughs for the antenna and a USB cable, which can be used to monitor and plot GPS and flight data in real-time, in addition to the onboard 2002 LCD screen. The shell also has an HC-06 bluetooth module enclosed, that allows the connection of the ground station to a cell phone for relaying coordinates of landed rockets to teams going into the field.
The top panel of the small ground station has multiple buttons that allow for full control of all aspects of the small ground tracking station.
The shell is enclosed inside of a waterproof protective case using epoxy, and the shell is surrounded in foam.
